Original Courses Include:

Transformable Design Methods This course introduces the theory and methods for designing objects that can change their size, shape, and surface. Students will gain the techniques to develop structures that demonstrate real-time changes of morphology. Topics include self- actuated form-creation through origami, design of transformable structures that change size and shape, strategies for physical interaction and automated control.

Informal Robotics Today new materials and fabrication techniques are transforming the field of robotics. Rather than rigid metal parts connected by mechanical components, robots may now be made of folded paper, carbon laminates or soft gels. This course explores informal robotics from multiple perspectives, with an aim to design and fabricate original devices displaying animated intelligence in real-time. The class is organized along four primary topics: Kinematics, Fabrication, Controls and Applications.
