Senior Mechanical Engineer (New York, NY)

Hoberman Associates, a multi-disciplinary design studio with a global practice in architecture, live entertainment, and product design is looking for an engineer. This is a demanding, but rewarding position, at the cutting edge of design and technology.
Applicant must be a degreed mechanical engineer with 5+ years of experience in machine design and 3+ years of experience as a project lead. Intimate knowledge of machined fabrication processes is a must. Expertise with sheet metal fabrication, structural systems and/or electromechanical systems is highly desirable.
All applicants must be well versed in 3D solids modeling software (Solidworks preferred) and have a desire to develop and refine CAD standards and techniques as they relate to a continually evolving workflow. Strong analytical abilities and problem solving skills are essential as they pertain to both mechanical design and work production. A keen interest in geometry and kinematics is a plus.
Primary duties include:
- Project organization and management
- Design specification and detailing
- Interfacing with clients concerning project deliverables and schedule
- Coordinating efforts with subcontractors, vendors, fabricators and other trades where applicable
- Day-to-day management of a small but growing team of mechanical engineers
- CAD management
- Field work and Installation oversight
This position requires a high level of initiative and ownership over the success of projects. All applicants should be self starters who are highly organized and motivated to see projects through from conception to manufacturing, installation and commissioning. Our design practice is grounded in a hands-on approach that requires physical validation of concepts and a close relationship to manufacturing.
Some international travel may be required.
